2007-2008 Green Schools Challenge Highlights
As we wind down the 2007-2008 Green Schools Challenge, which involved 15 elementary, middle and high schools in South Florida, we are proud to share the following collective accomplishments of participating schools:
- • Conserved over 653,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity
- • Recycled approximately 87,000 pounds of paper
- • Planted 540 native trees
These efforts saved over $150,000 in energy costs and reduced or offset close to 1.2 million pounds of carbon dioxide emissions. On behalf of Dream in Green and its sponsors, congratulations to the 18,000+ students, teachers and adminstrators who helped achieve these incredible results!
The Story So Far
The Dream in Greensm Foundation is a non-profit organization whose mission is to develop and implement projects that promote energy conservation and efficiency, environmental sustainability and the use of renewable energy. We were founded to aid the public and private sectors in the response to mounting environmental and energy challenges. We share the conviction that global warming is a reality that presents our society with both an unprecedented challenge and opportunity.
We are currently building partnerships with schools and local government for the purpose of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, waste and the reliance on fossil fuels. We pursue a multi-pronged approach, including conservation, energy efficient technology and renewable energy.
